THEATRE ON THE SOFA
With beautiful sets that pack down into a steamer trunk and a storybook backdrop or room divider, our Theatre On The Sofa (and Shakespeare on the Sofa) shows can be transported to any venue and audience, and can even be performed in private homes. We are also able to offer school and child-friendly performances, performances suitable for those with chronic illness and fatigue, and ASC-friendly performances. We are also able to tour the play to offices and care homes and hospices. Find out more about our current touring production The Grandmothers Grimm here.
How Theatre On The Sofa Works
- Enjoy the thrill of the theatre and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from the comfort of your home, garden, or community centre.
- No hassle. We bring all of the set and equipment. All we need is a 6' x 6' space.
- We will turn up 15 minutes before the performance is due to start and set up our scenery which, for The Grandmothers Grimm, consists of a narrow room divider, a small school desk, and a little chair.
- Invite your friends, family, neighbours, dog, cat, five-a-side team.
- We price Theatre On The Sofa from £18 per audience member (EH1 - EH50) but can offer discounts for larger groups. Please email us at info@somekindoftheatre.co.uk for a tailored, no-obligation quote or for our price list for shows outside of the Edinburgh area.
- Activity packs can be sent in advance for children and a Q&A session can be arranged for the end of the performance.

Child-Friendly & School Performances
- Our plays can be performed in family homes or gardens and at schools, saving the hassle and cost of getting to the theatre. All we require is an 6' x 6' space to perform.
- At least two members of the cast or crew with PVG certificates will be present at all times.
- We have a sign that young audience members can hold up in order to pause the play to ask the characters questions, or request an explanation of unfamiliar words.
- An interval can be included (the play is usually 60 minutes with no intervals).
- A Q&A session can be provided during the interval and/or after the second half to answer extra questions.
- A printable activities pack about the play and its story can be sent out in advance and workshops on prop work, story-telling and stage craft can be included alongside the performance.
